I am surrounded by death. It fills my thoughts, keeps me company, and encourages a dark sadness that permeates my world. My mother is dying; her cancer has spread to her brain and spine. It won’t be much longer now until she passes from this world of pain and sorrow to a better place. Beyond this terrible fact, I worry about the coming turmoil that I believe our nation faces. I worry that I will not be equal to the task of protecting my wife and son. My thoughts are often dark, and I fear that stress and sorrow are even now killing me.
I share this not to gain your sympathy, but to create a dark back-drop on which I can describe my thoughts of Easter this year.

A few months back, one of my brothers-in-law brought up amateur radio as a way for the family to communicate in the event of any situation that caused a lapse in normal communications. When he started telling my wife about how easy it is to pass the tests for licensing, I got interested. Long story…

My life has been filled with stress lately. I honestly feel like I am nearing the capacity of my stress tolerance; something will have to give soon. My parents are now both travelling in wheelchairs when they go out, which adds a new level of complexity to travel plans when I shuttle them to appointments…

Here it is, late at night on Thanksgiving Day 2011. We had a wonderful meal, which Sue prepared on short notice after our plans to eat out at a restaurant fell through. It was a quiet day around the house with ample opportunity to think about what is most important in our lives. I thought…

I’ve been working on SharePoint Server for more than a year as a writer, and I am continually struck by the…

I’ve been working hard for a long time now to take care of my aging parents. Long time; that seems like an understatement, but in fact I think it has really just been the last few years now. Things have been escalating, though, and are becoming harder to deal with emotionally. I’ve made the comment…

I have just been reborn in my latest incarnation at Microsoft, or something like that. I’ve just started my first real vendor position, working with the SharePoint Online team as a programmer writer. So far it looks like it will be a great job, although there is a lot to learn about their environment and…
